President Hinckley and Me

My first thoughts when I learned of Pres. Hinckley's death were, "Oh, no; that's sad," then immediately, "Well, at least he is with his wife again." Saturday Brien and I watched the funeral coverage on local channels out of Salt Lake City and enjoyed the biography special that KSL aired. They have a long list of news stories about Pres. Hinckley, so read at your leisure. You can also read a variety of stories from the church's website.

What amazes me the most is what a full life he lead. Regardless of someone's religious standing they should be able to admire and appreciate that aspect of Pres. Hinckley. He visited so many places, met so many people and kept going to the end. He had a work to do. When I look at my own "to do list" I am able to come up with excuses and procrastinate. But really my only excuse for not doing one important thing should be that I was doing something else that was important and fulfilling instead.

There are so many things that can bring us fulfillment and happiness in life. Maybe I need to focus more on my relationship with God and then I will be able to do a few more of the everyday tasks that have been so hard to finish.

I received an email about something called the Hinckley Challenge. It's a challenge to read the Book of Mormon in 97 days. My reason for participating isn't really to honor Pres. Hinckley, but to do something for my own spiritual well-being. Hopefully having the bar graph on my blog will keep my motivation up. After I get through the Book of Mormon I want to then spend some extra time studying the New Testament this year.

If you aren't a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and would like a copy of the Book of Mormon you can go to this page and scroll to the bottom of the page to request a free copy. At the website Mormon.org you can also learn more about LDS beliefs.
