Good Deed, Bad Timing
A friend with lots of kids called last night and asked if I could watch 4 of her kids for a short time at her house this afternoon, 12-2pm. I had no problem doing this, and thought that Zarina could use more time to socialize with other kids. This mom has a lot on her plate, so I swept her kitchen floor, took out the trash for her and picked up a few things. I felt good that I was able to do some small things that may or may not be noticed. Zarina and I came back home and was laid down for her nap around 2:30, about 60-90 minutes later than usual. She only slept until about 3:45. This nap was much shorter than the 3-4 hours she has been sleeping in the afternoon. After getting her up and having her cry inconsolably for most of 30 minutes, I have put her back in bed to try and get my sanity back. This doesn't happen very often, the crying part, I lose my sanity on a regular basis. Even as we speak she is crying in her room. I guess I will have to rescue her soon, I just don't know what to do to calm her down.

I've left the girls in their rooms while crying many times. Mixing up the sleep schedule can be a recipe for disaster, or it might be just fine. It was still super nice of you to help that mom.
I hope your evening goes better.
My kids always LOVED baths. That always seemed to calm them down. They really liked just sitting and playing in there....they still do!
I bet YOU need a nap after a day with 4 extra children. Go take one...well, it's really late now, so I hope you're getting a good night's sleep.
Ha ha! I love that you lose your sanity on a regular basis! Me too! Karen gets like this sometimes when she doesn't take long enough naps. It's hard. If I lay with her, sometimes I can get her to take a second nap those days, she will wake up happy! Good luck!
You're a good friend. You can come watch my kids. :D I second the bath idea. Or go for a walk and get a change of scenery.
I will do almost anything to avoid messing up nap time. The results are usually maddening because a tired baby (or toddler) = very cranky baby = exhausted, exasperated mom! That was really sweet of you to help out your friend though. And, there are very few things that a good night's sleep can't remedy!
