Thoughts on Ely

There have been little quirky things about this town that I mean to write, but currently I can only remember one of them.

Trash pick-up is on Wednesday in our neighborhood. Brien and I had a disagreement about this a few weeks ago. He decided that is was on Thursday and I swore it was Wednesday and both of us said, "Well, I was home that day and the garbage truck came by." This week we realized the truth, it comes on Wednesday or Thursday if they are running behind. I came home on Wednesday and saw our neighbors dumpster on the street and all I could think was, "Oh no, we missed them two weeks in a row and our trash can is full!"

Brien came home fifteen minutes later and realized, "Oh no, we forgot to put out the trash. But look, the neighbors bags are still on the street. They didn't come today. Yipee!!" The good news is that wer realized we were both correct in our disagreement about the trash pick up day.

Another pet peeve has come to me: Taco Time. Now don't get me wrong, I like Taco Time. I wish the prices were a little cheaper here; I feel like I am getting half as much food as I would at Taco Bell, but that's irrelevant because there is no Taco Bell, only Taco Time in the gas station food court, right next to Subway and the out of business TCBY. Taco Time is a pet peeve because they are the slowest fast food place in existence. The only employee that I like there is the manager, the rest are loud teenagers who have no sense of appropriate work place behavior. They have loud obnoxious conversations while slowing making our food. We always get it "to go", but we still have to listen to them for 10-15 minutes while they prepare our food. Maybe I should complain to "corporate" Taco Time and let them know this little shop in Ely is giving them a bad name. Each time (about 5 occurances) I have been sitting, waiting for them to finally make my food all I can think is, "I should have just gone to McDonald's or paid twice as much at one of the restaraunts, but I would have more food and it would taste better in about the same amount of time."

When all is said and done I still like this place.

Mmmm- Taco Time... I quite enjoy them. Try an emanada there. YUM!

At least someone at your house is remembering garbage day at all- here the garbage truck comes twice a week- which is good since we usually only remember it one of those times.

Too bad you have to be nice to the loud teenagers..otherwise they might spit in your food. :)
