Brien's Cooking Exploits

Brien made his signature pumpkin soup in honor of Friday the 13th. It's ironic that we call it pumpkin soup, because this recipe doesn't use pumpkin but, rather butternut squash. It turned out tasting delicious and, when we added the dollop of sour cream it tasted even better. We had sausage patties on the side (it goes well together) and he also made a chocolate cream pie for dessert. We ended up with about 6 quarts of soup, maybe more, so it will be part of our diet for the next few days.

After our walk up to the new house this morning, Brien created some "mummy dogs" for lunch to accompany some of the leftover soup. Mummy dogs are similar to pigs in a blanket, but we make up bisquick dough and slice it into strips to wrap around the hot dog. The ones Brien made today were extra easy because he had bought a package of breadstick dough that was on sale. This evening he has been making Halloween sugar cookies and using colored cream cheese frosting to decorate. Everything has turned out to be very yummy. What a great guy!
