A friend asked about pets. After making a long comment I decided to transfer it to a post.
My husband has a dog. (Notice the wording.) My job is to not get rid of the dog (give him away, I'm not referring to murder) while my husband is gone at work for 8-10 hours. During field season the responsibility stretches to 3-4 days. Some days are easy, some are hard. I have often said, "I hate your dog. I don't want a dog in my house anymore." Did I mention he's an indoor dog? Did I mention that we don't have grass in our backyard? Did I mention that when the snow melts (current weather condition) or when it rains (it does happen occasionally in the desert) that I have muddy puppy paw prints across my kitchen floor? It's hard to get him to sit in one place long enough for the mud to dry before he moves around in the house.
I told Brien that the length of time Jack lives is the length of time I get to live dog-free. So if Jack lives his full 18 years I will get to be dog free from age 45-63. I then hope to convince Brien that we are too close to retirement to get another dog. Brien loves (but sometimes dislikes) having a dog. We will have to see how this goes.
I am not an animal person. I think fish are okay. If I had to have a pet with four legs I think I would want a nice, independent, cat; or maybe a dog that was less demanding.
How do you feel about pets?

Ooohh, i don't like dogs at all. Especially small hiper dogs that jump up and pee when excited. We have a cat...she's insane.
Amen Andrea! I might even have issues with a fish, to be quit honest.
Haha!! You were present when I boiled the tankful of fish. Sort of a random coincidence.
I don't like dogs or cats. Both are hairy and too demanding. Apparently I'm okay with gerbils as long as the responsibility of caring for it isn't mine.
There have been dogs that I've liked before, but overall I'm not a pet person AT ALL! I get really annoyed with them. I had a fish once (a friend gave it to me, because she felt bad that I'd never had a pet) and I ended up flushing it down the toilet because I was tired of cleaning its bowl. So obviously I'm not a good pet owner! However, Ryan loves dogs so I'm sure someday we'll end up with one.
I never grew up with any pets other than fish and a couple rabbits. Therefore, I'm not a huge pet person. Especially big pets like dogs. If I had to choose though, I'd definitely get a dog over a cat anyday!
I loved my dogs before Kaia was born. Now they seem to cause more trouble and create more of a mess than I can handle. I care for and clean-up after a 2 year old and that's more than enough for me. Maybe Jack, Nalu, and 'Alohi can find a nice home together.

Mine went to the pound. I'm horrible I know. But I couldn't handle an unhappy hubby and I wanted more children so the dog had to go. I'm happily dog free now.
My mother is an animal person. She is like dr doolittle; she talks to the animals. I grew up with tons of animals. I envy her ability to love and train all animals.
When I need to nurture that side of me I go visit my mom and her farm or I look at my two parakeets and my goldfish.
