I Don't Get It

I ordered some items from the LDS church distribution, theoretically located in Salt Lake City, UT. I like to tract my orders, so here's where it's been so far: Package was checked in in Denver, CO ( I swear the last time it came from SLC); headed over to Sacramento, CA (across two states); went south to Chino, CA (near LA). My next guess is that it will go to Las Vegas, then finally come to Ely. It's supposed to show up here on the 20th. Judging by the time lapse it has been moving in a truck the whole time. It's free shipping, so I can't complain too much. It's just that usually my FedEx packages come from where ever and get checked in at SLC and then come to my house. This long route just boggles my mind.
