I'm so funny. . .

Funny

Brien set up the baby monitor (thank you Cori) and placed a receiver in the kitchen. As we ate breakfast this morning he commented on how well it picked up the noises from the bedroom. This afternoon the baby was sleeping and we were in the kitchen. One of us (I won't say who) passed gas and I said, "Wow, that baby monitor sure does work well!"

For the record the baby has had some loud gaseous expulsions and they can be smelly.

Baby Check-up

Zarina lost a few ounces, but today is back up to 7 lbs. 8 oz. Her thighs are filling out a bit, but you can see most of the weight gain in her face. The jaundice is gone, so we don't have to keep her on the uncomfortable belli blanket anymore. We are happy that we can now just sit and cuddle with her without feeling guilty that the light isn't on her helping the jaundice go away. I look at some of the one year olds we know and I can't help but think that baby Z is going to grow up way too fast.

Mom Check-up

So I didn't have an appointment with the doctor, but I was curious about what my current weight is post-baby. Before I checked out last week I was never able to step on a scale. Well, as you may remember from previous posts, I only gained about 5 pounds during this pregnancy. I was also at my highest weight ever when I got pregnant. (I had gained weight after moving to Ely, then there was the holiday weight gain, then we went to Disneyland, and my clothes were not fitting well at all.) I am happy to report that 1 week after baby I weigh in at 25 pounds less! Crazy I know. I celebrated by giving myself a little extra ice cream with my apple crisp this afternoon.

I wasn't trying to lose weight during the pregnancy, I was just trying to be healthy. I think my body knew how out of whack it was and so it was able to compensate for the baby weight gain. I was really concerned about the weight issue, but now I don't feel like there is much of an issue. I am eating a lot and eating healthy (I am nursing after all) so this news just gives me extra motivation to stay on the right track. Some people say that nursing helps them lose the baby weight, but many of my friends have not been able to lose weight while nursing. So I decided that I will be happy if I can just maintain where I'm at for a while. I'm not quite up to a walk around the block yet, I just want to make healthy decisions for me and the baby.

Now for a few photos

Her first bath this past Sunday. Brien walked me through the steps, so maybe he'll let me help more next time.

She was our little glow bug with the belli light. Of course it dimmed when we wrapped her up in blankets. The machine still made our room much lighter.

One week old and already boxing. You can see a scratch on her cheek. It's too easy for her to shake the mitts off or loose them in her blankets. You can really see how chubby her cheeks are getting. And check out the double chin!

I unwrapped her and snapped a quick photo so you can see how she looked 20 minutes ago. Zarina is a wonderful baby. (Who will likely be waking up in the next 20 minutes and demand a feeding.)

I guess I should have taken her hat off, so you can be reminded she has hair. It's just so chilly here that the hat rarely leaves her head. I actually forget that she has hair.
