I'm a Nerd

May and November are anxious months for me. By the last day of the month . . . . our car insurance is due! (EEEEEK!) A few years ago I gave up paying car insurance monthly, because suddenly you have a monthly fee of $3-$5 at least to pay your insurance, plus you miss out on the "pay it all right now and get this discount" discount. I figured with the monthly fees and not taking advantage of the discount it added up to another monthly payment throughout the year.

In April and October I begin to feel nervous, wondering when the billing notice will show up. I wonder if the premium is going up, or down, or staying about the same. It's the uncertainty that drives me crazy. Today, Brien forwarded an email from Progressive. It was a Hallelujah moment. Ely is rural, a speeding ticket we received when returning from Zarina's baby shower in Las Vegas 3 years ago dropped off the record, and the rate dropped even more. It's our lowest yet. The "pay it all now" amount for our SUV and sedan is only $312 for 6 months. I can't imagine seeing that in a big city for "full-coverage" on 2 cars.

Isn't finances one of those topics that sophisticated people don't talk about?

Our insurance actually likes month to month, as far as I can tell. Maybe we should see if we get a discount for paying once or twice a year.

Fortunately, it's gone done the past couple renews because our agent, or his assistant, looks at our policy and sees if he can get us better deals. Even though I had my accident last year, we still got our policy lowered since we qualified for some special program, I think since we had been with them for so long with no tickets or deductibles.

I'm also very jealous of how low your insurance it. If we move to a nicer neighborhood ours might get lowered.
