That would be Brien's 4 runner. We used both cars for the weekend excursion. Brien's had all the camping stuff. My car had what we needed for Las Vegas, including air conditioning. While we were camping my car stayed at the NRCS field office in Caliente (25 minutes south of Panaca) and then when we continued to LV for the weekend we left Brien's SUV, with it's broken A/C there.Cathedral Gorge is one of Nevada's state parks. Here are a few shots of what it looks like:
It's an area with pretty erosion patterns. It feels quite foreign when you're there. We joked that it would be a good place for Star Trek to use as another planet.We met Lacey and Jon and their 2 little girls there for a small camping trip. Zarina loved playing with her cousins. Lilah (5) especially liked having Z follow her around. Eden (3) was okay with her, but I think Zarina slowed her down too much. The girls enjoyed walking in the "wilderness" by the campsite. They found a dry stream bed and would follow it to the road. When Zarina was with them she would trudge along as fast as she could in the soft, silty (like a very fine sand) soil. Zarina was falling down alot, but she didn't care. She would just giggle and laugh and get up to walk some more.
The area is well developed for camping. We had a covered picnic table and a fire pit. There were lots of trees around each site. And, best of all they had restroom facilities with flushing toilets and a shower. That's my preferred type of camping. (Brien was the only one who used the shower in the 2 days we were there.) The dirt in the area is very soft and fine. I was happy that they had brought in some larger gravel for the camp sites, or it would have been super messy.
Z has this same shirt, in a 4T. You have to love Target. It's a cute little bird holding an umbrella. Our friends up the street in Ely have it for their little girl too. You know it's cute because it's so popular.We spaced packing Zarina's hiking backpack, so we didn't do the 4 mile loop trail. Friday was our exploring day. We didn't do much, but we did go a short distance across the road and check out the "caves." Really they felt like mini slot canyons, because they were open on the top.
Zarina loved walking around on her own.

Coming back from the adventure, Zarina gave me her hat, and then took mine. I guess she needed more sun coverage.
It was a fun little camping trip. We really didn't do much, but the best part was enjoying everyone's company without a lot of distractions. Saturday morning we packed up and headed to Las Vegas. We were fortunate to be able to see all of Andrea's siblings that live in that area and have a great family BBQ. We were able to go to the temple (finally). We went to Burger King so we could ge Brien the Star Trek glasses, and Brien had his wish fulfilled to see the new Star Trek movie (it was so good). It was a great trip, until Tuesday, when we both visited the dentist for cleanings and Brien also had some old fillings replaced. We then headed back home to Ely.

Looks like a lot of fun. It's on my list of places to see...sometime. The list is long!
I agree about the Star Trek movie. I am not a Trekkie or Trekker or Trekkan American or whatever it is they liked to be called now, but I still really liked the show. If they were all that good, maybe I'd convert.
I like your new header, cute. The trip looks like fun, but it looks like a place that would be extremely HOT. I prefer greenery and a place to swim.

It was a fun trip. The great thing about having a toddler is that you get to relax more while camping. The bad thing about having a toddler is that you miss trails and things to explore because you are relaxing.

All three girls had gone with Brien when he took Jack for a walk and I asked if anyone thought his three girls were cute.
It's funny because everyone says Z looks so much like my girls, but I think she look so much Z and just a little like my girls.
